Northfleet Carnival goes HARD.

Northfleet Carnival goes HARD.

Jul 23, 2012
Thousands turned out to line the streets from Springhead Industrial Park, Northfleet to the Gravesend Basin on Saturday in support of the 28th annual Northfleet Carnival. Team HARD. had been invited to join the other 20 or so floats ranging from schools, dance schools, bands etc with the day beginning at the garage in Dartford at 8am. With the Spa winning VW racing cup Scholarship race car loaded on to the transporter, Martin, Gary and Ben set off for Northfleet. After parking up in the holding area and unloading the car, it was time to join the organisers and marshals in the local cafe for a full English breakfast.

Just before midday, Phil arrived and all went back to the cafe for a last cup of tea before the procession started. To everyone’s amazement, Phil also only had a cup of tea. Once Gary arrived, it was time to set off and we were on our way. As we turned out of Springhead and made our way along the streets at walking pace, it became apparent just how much the people of Northfleet and Gravesend looked forward to it as they were all standing in their gardens or looking out of their windows, many with bags of coin to donate to the many charity boxes that were carried along the way including our Cancer Research box.

We thought the streets were busy where the houses were, but once we reached Gravesend Town Centre it seemed like the whole of the town had come out for the day. Maybe the bright sunshine had something to do with it too. But after almost 3 hours of walking and driving, the floats arrived at their final destination where Gravesend’s ‘Big Day Out’ was being held, so it was time for quick refreshment before heading back to the garage.

A good day was had by all, so well done to all the organisers, marshals, everyone who took part and all the generous and supportive people who lined the streets. See you next year……
