Track Day

Feb 8, 2012
A great day was had by all that joined Tony and his team for another Track Day at Brands Hatch on Saturday 21st January.
However, it was a long week getting everything prepared, especially the new ‘Demo’ car that had to be primed and wrapped in the now familiar pink & Green livery as a few minor hiccups and late delivery of parts, meant that most of the team worked into the early hours and in some instances, through the night in order to ensure that it made it to the track!

The team met at the garage at 6:15am in order to load up and drive the cars the short trip up the road to the famous Kent circuit to begin setting up before everyone else arrived. It was a cold, damp morning with a fair bit of surface water on track by the time we arrived.
However, following signing on, noise testing, breakfast and drivers briefing, it was time to get the cars on track for sighting laps. There was a real mix of cars and drivers on the day as a 6 hour Open Pit Lane event such as this gives you the flexibility to go on and off circuit as you please throughout the day. It allowed everyone to enjoy all the circuit time that they could handle in order to develop their driving skills.
Track time began around 9:30am and the chequered flag came down in order to break for lunch at midday.

At 1pm, we were back on track and apart from a short stop (Red flag) due to somebody going in to the gravel at Paddock Hill bend, the day was relatively event free with the chequered flag finally coming down at around 4:15pm.

Brands Hatch Indy Circuit is a real favourite amongst track day drivers. This relatively short circuit is surprisingly difficult to perfect with double apexes at both Druids and Clearways. The swoops and dips add to excitement culminating in Paddock Hill Bend often described as being like dropping off the edge of the world!

Cars on show included:
  • Golf Mk 5 GTI (Demo car)
  • MK 5 R32 Golf
  • Nissan 350z
  • Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0
  • Mitsubishi Evo MR FQ 360
  • Lamborghini Gallardo
  • Nissan GTR
  • 10 x Vauxhall Corsa VXR (all highly tuned)
  • Astra VXR X 10 (all highly tuned)
  • Caterham
  • Starion
  • Ginetta
  • BMW M3
  • In addition to this, we had our team of drivers, Tony, Abi Eaton, James Sutton, Robin Clark, Sam Mayer Logheran, Anna Walewska and Wayne Ellis on hand to give passengers hot laps and driver tuition. As if that wasn’t enough, we also had drivers booked in to take their ARDS test in order to obtain their National B race licence. By the time we had packed away, we left the circuit sometime after 5pm and headed back to the garage where the team were joined by about 30 of the track day attendees for a BBQ which featured an hour’s entertainment with local Elvis impersonator, Scott Elvis. Another successful event and plans are already underway for the next one.
